UCLA Senior Megan Grant Chasing NCAA Single-Season Home Run Record

UCLA senior Megan Grant equaled the NCAA single-season home run record by hitting her 37th home run in the Bruins' victory over Wisconsin in the Big Ten tournament semifinal. The previous record was set in 1995 by Arizona's Lauren Espinoza. Grant and Oklahoma freshman Kendall Wells have been hitting home runs at an impressive rate this season, with Wells closely trailing Grant with 36 home runs. While Wells' team was eliminated from the SEC tournament, Grant will have the opportunity to break the record in the upcoming NCAA tournament.
During the game against Wisconsin, UCLA hit a total of four home runs, bringing their team's single-season home run total to 181, setting an NCAA record. In addition to Grant's achievement, UCLA senior Jordan Woolery was named the Big Ten player of the year by the league's coaches. Woolery leads the nation in RBIs with 107 and is one of only five players in NCAA Division I history to surpass 100 RBIs in a season. Several other UCLA players also received All-Big Ten honors for their outstanding performances throughout the season.
Grant will be competing in the league tournament title game against regular-season Big Ten champion Nebraska, which will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network. The game was rescheduled to an earlier time to avoid potential storms in Maryland. Grant's focus and determination have been key to her success this season, as she continues to excel in her one-on-one battles at the plate. With the support of her teammates and coaches, Grant has the opportunity to make history by breaking the NCAA single-season home run record.
