Toby Keith: From Oil Fields to Country Music Stardom

Toby Keith received his first guitar at the age of eight and spent his childhood in Clinton, Oklahoma, and Fort Smith, Arkansas, where he played with bands at his grandmother's supper club. After high school, he pursued a career in the Oklahoma oil fields while also performing with his band Easy Money at night. When the oil industry collapsed in 1982, he tried out for the USFL's Oklahoma Outlaws but continued to focus on his music career. A flight attendant who heard him perform helped him get noticed by a Mercury Records producer, leading to his debut single "Should've Been a Cowboy" reaching No. 1 in 1993.
Keith's music career took off with 32 No. 1 hits, over 40 million albums sold, and his induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame shortly before his passing. Despite his success, Keith remained grounded in his faith, which sustained him through life's challenges, including his toughest battle.
