Important Recall Notice: Software Update for 2023-2026 Ram 2500 Pickup Trucks
The NHTSA has issued a recall for certain 2023-2026 Ram 2500 pickup trucks due to a software error in the powertrain control module. This error can cause the truck to exceed the speed rating of its tires, leading to potential loss of vehicle control. Exceeding the speed rating of tires can result in rapid degradation of the tire's structural integrity, especially on a heavy-duty truck like the Ram 2500.
To address this issue, Ram dealers will perform a software update to the powertrain control module at no cost to the owner. Notification letters will be sent out on June 4, 2026, and affected VINs can be checked on NHTSA.gov starting May 14, 2026. Owners are advised to contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403 to schedule the software update appointment, as it can only be done by authorized dealers.
For Ram 2500 owners who frequently drive at high speeds or tow heavy loads, it is recommended to avoid extended high-speed driving until the software update is completed. The risk of tire blowouts due to the powertrain module not enforcing the speed ceiling properly can be mitigated by getting the software update done promptly. Ensuring the safety and performance of your vehicle is crucial, so take advantage of the free fix provided by FCA.
