Finecut Secures Distribution Deals for Hong Sangsoo's The Day She Returns and More: A Look at Their Cannes Slate

Finecut, a South Korean distribution company, has secured distribution deals for Hong Sangsoo’s film, The Day She Returns, in various countries across Europe and Asia. The movie premiered at the Berlinale and has been acquired by companies in France, the UK, Spain, Finland, mainland China, and Taiwan. The Day She Returns is the 34th feature film by the prolific South Korean director and stars Song Sunmi, Cho Yunhee, and Park Miso. The story follows a woman who struggles to recall interviews she gave about an indie film she shot. The film is produced by Hong’s own production company, Jeonwonsa Film.
In addition to The Day She Returns, Finecut also holds international sales rights to July Jung’s upcoming film, Dora, which will premiere at the Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes. Dora is a South Korea-France-Luxembourg co-production starring Kim Do-yeon and Japan’s Sakura Ando. Ando, a seasoned actress, has previously attended Cannes for her work in acclaimed films. July Jung’s previous works include A Girl At My Door and Next Sohee, both of which received international recognition. Dora is produced by companies from France, South Korea, and Luxembourg.
Another film on Finecut’s Cannes slate is Park Hoon-jung’s action-noir Tristes Tropiques, which recently won an award at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival. The company is also working on Long Long Night, a 3D animated feature based on a Korean novel, and Wash Away, a Japanese horror-thriller centered around the purification of human souls by water from a lakeside. Finecut continues to expand its presence in the international film market with a diverse range of projects.
