She highlighted the challenges she faced after the publication of her book, including legal restrictions imposed by Meta. Wynn-Williams praised Giuffre for her courage in speaking out against powerful individuals and institutions, despite facing suppression efforts and legal battles.
Publisher Mike Harpley commended Wynn-Williams for her bravery in addressing important issues in her book, despite facing personal and legal consequences. He noted the irony of her being silenced by a company that claims to support free speech. Giuffre, who tragically passed away before the publication of her memoir, was recognized for her determination to share her story and help other survivors of abuse.
Accepting the award on behalf of Giuffre, journalist Amy Wallace emphasized Giuffre's desire for her book to reach a wide audience and support survivors of sexual abuse. Giuffre's brother, Sky Roberts, praised her for speaking truth to power and inspiring millions. The Freedom to Publish award has previously been given to authors who faced censorship, highlighting the importance of free expression in the literary world.
