NBC's Fall 2026 Schedule: Law & Order Renewed, Law & Order: Organized Crime Canceled

NBC's fall 2026 schedule was finalized with the renewal of Law & Order for its 26th season just before the network's lineup announcement. Negotiations for the renewal reportedly focused on budget reductions, but NBC's Lisa Katz mentioned that no drastic changes are expected for the show. The scheduling shift caused by The Traitors taking over Law & Order's Thursday 8 PM slot also contributed to the delay in the renewal decision.

Budget cuts are common for long-running broadcast series like the Dick Wolf dramas on NBC, leading to adjustments in episode orders and cast appearances. While Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU secured their spots on the upcoming schedule, Law & Order: Organized Crime, the newest spinoff starring Christopher Meloni, will not return for a sixth season. The decision was made based on the belief that the series had reached its natural conclusion after four seasons on NBC and one on Peacock.

Law & Order: Organized Crime faced challenges during its transition to Peacock, struggling with its broadcast-streaming identity and changes in the creative team. With five showrunners in as many seasons, the series had difficulty maintaining consistency. Despite its initial success, the decision was made not to continue the show for another season on either Peacock or NBC.
