The film, previously known as "New Years Rev," stars Mason Thames, Mckenna Grace, Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, Sean Gunn, Bobby Lee, and Fred Armisen. It follows the story of three high school friends who embark on a wild road trip under the mistaken belief that their band has been booked to open for Green Day on New Year's Eve. The movie is inspired by Green Day's real-life experiences before the success of their album "Dookie."
In addition to unveiling the film's poster, Inaugural also announced a partnership with fan-owned entertainment company Legion M. Fans have the opportunity to invest in the Legion M Film Fund, which supports the marketing and distribution of "Nimrods" and other projects. The cast of the film includes Kylr Coffman, Ryan Foust, Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, and Keen Ruffalo. The movie was directed by Lee Kirk, who previously worked with Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong on the film "Ordinary World."
Green Day members Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tre Cool serve as producers for "Nimrods," along with Tim Perell for Process. The film is a collaboration between Inaugural, Live Nation Studios, and Legion M. The movie is set to hit theaters on August 14, offering audiences a chance to experience the humor, chaos, and rebellious spirit that define Green Day's music.
Legion M co-founders Jeff Annison and Paul Scanlan expressed their excitement about the film, highlighting the opportunity for fans to own a stake in the project. Inaugural Entertainment founder and CEO Kevin Weisberg emphasized the communal experience of watching "Nimrods" in theaters and praised the partnership with Legion M and Live Nation Studios. Live Nation Studios head of film and TV Ryan Kroft commended the film for capturing the essence of Green Day's roots and praised the forward-thinking approach of the collaboration.
Armstrong shared his enthusiasm for the project during an interview, expressing his long-standing desire to create a Green Day film.
