Legacy at Hillman: A Different World Sequel Series Premiering This Fall
Netflix is gearing up for the premiere of the sequel series to A Different World this fall. The show, created by showrunner and executive producer Felicia Pride, will follow the youngest child of Deborah, Dwayne Wayne, and Whitley Gilbert as she embarks on her freshman year at Hillman College. The 10-episode single-cam series will explore her journey to establish her own legacy while navigating the challenges and adventures of college life.
The new series will feature a mix of original cast members reprising their roles, including Darryl M. Bell, Cree Summer, Charnele Brown, Jenifer Lewis, Jada Pinkett Smith, Dawnn Lewis, Glynn Turman, Karen Malina White, and Ajai Sanders. Joining them are a new generation of characters played by Alijah Kai Haggins, Cornell Young, Kennedi Reece, Jordan Aaron Hall, and Chibuikem Uche, who will bring fresh perspectives to the HBCU experience.
The ensemble cast also includes Vincent Jamal Hooper, Elijah J. Roberts, Renee Harrison, Famecia Ward, Dasan Frazier, Tichina Arnold, Joshua Suiter, Raven Goodwin, Cliff "Method Man" Smith, and Norman Nixon Jr. Notably, Debbie Allen, who directed numerous episodes of the original series, will direct three episodes of the sequel, including the first episode. The show's executive producers include writers from the original series, Reggie Rock Bythewood and Gina Prince-Bythewood, along with Mandy Summers and Tom Werner.
With a mix of familiar faces and new talent, the A Different World sequel promises to capture the essence of the beloved original series while introducing a fresh perspective on the college experience.
