The Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music: A Journey Through Music History
The Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music will open on June 7 at Monmouth University. This impressive $50 million facility spans 30,000 square feet and features exhibits that delve into the musician's work, American music history, and official archives.
On the second floor, visitors can explore the artist's career through artifacts displayed in cases. A concert room screens films of live performances, while interactive instruments allow guests to listen to audio from the E Street Band. One section focuses on Springsteen's writing process and the American literature that influenced him.
The first floor houses the American Music Gallery, which traces the origins of American music. Guests can walk through a 240-seat Dolby soundstage theater that features a film of Springsteen discussing American music while driving in his car.
The center will house tens of thousands of items from over 45 countries, including books, concert memorabilia, articles, and promotional materials. Ticket holders can access an archives room with 18 computer stations to view digitized versions of materials at no extra cost. Researchers can also utilize a private archive room with staff assistance.
The theater will host various events such as concerts, lecture series, film screenings, education symposiums, teacher workshops, and internship programs. These programs aim to engage college and high school students, providing them with opportunities to learn about music history.
The archives were established in the early 2000s by the Friends of the Bruce Springsteen Special Collection. The collection was later moved to Monmouth University in 2011. The center was announced in 2017 and was funded by private donations.
Preceding the opening of the center, there will be events like the Music America: The Songs that Shaped Us concerts on June 4 and 5 at the OceanFirst Bank Center. Additionally, the America 250: A Jersey Shore Celebration of the Nation's Music Heritage event will take place on May 29 at the Pollak Theatre.
