Canada Hosts FIFA World Cup 2026: Commemorative Coin Celebrates Historic Event

The FIFA World Cup 2026 is set to take place in Canada, Mexico, and the United States, with Canada hosting matches in Toronto and Vancouver. To mark this historic event, the Royal Canadian Mint has released a new $1 circulation coin commemorating the tournament. The coin, available in struck and colorized versions, features the FIFA World Cup 2026 emblem and elements representing the host cities of Toronto and Vancouver. Designed by Canadian artist Glen Green, the coin captures the spirit of unity and pride as fans come together to support their teams. The coin will begin circulating on May 14, 2026, coinciding with the start of the tournament.

The Honourable François-Philippe Champage, Minister of Finance and National Revenue, highlighted the significance of the FIFA World Cup 2026 for Canada and emphasized the power of sports to unite communities. The Royal Canadian Mint's Interim President and CEO, Simon Kamel, expressed pride in commemorating the first-ever FIFA World Cup men's tournament matches to be played in Canada. The coin serves as a lasting keepsake for Canadian fans as they cheer on their team during this historic event.

Featuring the top portion of the FIFA26 CAN maple leaf mosaic in shades of orange and red squares, the reverse of the coin also includes the official FIFA World Cup 2026 emblem and a soccer ball in motion. Engravings of "Toronto" and "Vancouver" as the Canadian Host Cities complete the design. The obverse of the coin showcases the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati. Vittorio Montagliani, FIFA Vice President and Concacaf President, emphasized the coin's significance in representing Canada's role as a host country on the world stage.

Toronto and Vancouver will host a total of 13 FIFA World Cup 2026 matches from June 11 to July 19, 2026. With Canada's Men's National team qualifying for the tournament, Canadian fans will have the opportunity to see their national team play in both host cities. Limited to a mintage of three million coins, including two million colorized versions, the $1 commemorative circulation coin will be available in bank branches and businesses starting May 14, 2026. Additionally, special coin sets and wrap rolls are available for collectors and fans to celebrate this momentous occasion.

The Royal Canadian Mint has also launched a collection of precious metal collector coins celebrating the FIFA World Cup 2026. These numismatic products offer a unique way to commemorate the tournament and are available for purchase through various channels. As the FIFA World Cup 2026 approaches, the release of the commemorative coin adds to the excitement and anticipation surrounding this global sporting event.
