Memento's Success in Auteur Films: A Look at Their 2025 Box Office Hits and Upcoming Projects

Memento, a French producer-distributor, has had a successful year with auteur films at the theatrical box office. Despite the challenging theatrical climate, Memento stood out with its 2025 box office results, including hits like Jafar Panahi’s It Was Just An Accident and Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value. The company also saw strong numbers for Guan Hu’s Black Dog, which won the Un Certain Regard award in 2024, reaching 300,000 admissions.
Now, Memento has boarded two new projects: Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s Weary Sun and Diao Yinan’s Red Snow. The company will co-produce and release both films in France. Weary Sun, set to start shooting in June, follows a father who reunites with his daughter and grandson at their seaside home, delving into buried resentments and fractured relationships. The film stars Pinar Deniz, Altan Erkekli, Osman Sonant, and Kerem Bursin.
Memento’s collaboration with Ceylan continues with Weary Sun, marking their fifth project together. The company also reteams with Diao after their successful partnership on The Wild Goose Lake. Red Snow, currently filming in northeast China, features Jackson Yee and Liao Fan in the lead roles.
In addition to these projects, Memento has acquired Monia Chokri’s Ni Le Jour Ni La Nuit, a comedy about relationships that will be shot in France. The company’s upcoming distribution slate includes films like Asghar Farhadi’s Parallel Tales, Ira Sachs’ The Man I Love, Ruben Ostlund’s The Entertainment System Is Down, and Colm Beiread’s Mary Rose.
Founded in 2003 by Alexandre Mallet-Guy and Emilie Georges, Memento has maintained its focus on production and distribution. While Georges now heads the company’s international sales arm as Paradise City Sales, Mallet-Guy continues to lead Memento with a commitment to auteur-driven films with commercial appeal, often with political undertones.
