The Library of Congress has announced the 2026 inductees to the National Recording Registry, which includes recordings by artists such as Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, The Go-Go’s, Vince Gill, and Weezer. These recordings are recognized for their cultural, historical, and artistic importance to the United States. The registry aims to preserve these audio treasures for future generations to enjoy.

Among the newly selected recordings are Taylor Swift’s album "1989," Beyoncé’s hit song "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)," The Go-Go’s debut album "Beauty and the Beat," and Chaka Khan’s hit "I Feel for You." The diverse selection spans 70 years of recorded sound, from Spike Jones and His City Slickers’ 1944 single "Cocktails for Two" to Swift’s "1989," showcasing the evolution of music over the years.

This year’s inductees also include recordings by Ray Charles, Reba McEntire, José Feliciano, Gladys Knight and the Pips, and Paul Anka. The selection process involved over 3,000 public nominations, with Swift and Beyoncé making their debut in the registry this year. The recognition of artists like Rosanne Cash and Johnny Cash highlights the first father-daughter duo to be inducted into the registry, showcasing the diversity of musical talent.

Vince Gill expressed his pride in his song "Go Rest High On That Mountain," stating it is the work he most wants to be remembered for. Members of The Go-Go’s, including Belinda Carlisle and Jane Wiedlin, expressed their gratitude for being included in the Library of Congress collection. The band’s legacy is celebrated for breaking barriers for women in rock music, paving the way for future female artists.

The National Recording Registry, established in 2000, selects 25 recordings each year that are at least a decade old and hold cultural, historical, or aesthetic significance. This year’s diverse selection of recordings reflects the rich tapestry of American music and its impact on society. The preservation of these recordings ensures that they will be cherished and enjoyed for years to come.
