Arizona Wildcats Secure Commitment from 3-Star Running Back Wayne Shanks Jr.

The Arizona Wildcats have been successful in their recruiting efforts for the upcoming season. Recently, Braylen Ross, a 3-star wide receiver from California, committed to the Wildcats. Following this, Wayne Shanks Jr., a 3-star running back from Houston, also announced his decision to join the team.
Shanks, standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing around 200 pounds, is known for his size and toughness on the field. Playing for the Kinkaid School in Houston, Shanks has had an impressive high school career. In the 2025 season, he accumulated 1,787 rushing yards and 24 touchdowns on 242 carries, along with 26 receptions for 352 yards and 6 touchdowns. In his sophomore year in 2024, he had similar impressive stats with 1,579 rushing yards, 23 touchdowns, and 15 receptions for 223 yards and 4 scores.
With 23 reported offers, Shanks ultimately chose Arizona over schools like Kansas, Notre Dame, Baylor, and Ohio State. He is ranked as a high 3-star recruit by 247Sports, placing him as the No. 43 running back internally and the No. 583 player nationally in the Composite ranking.
During a visit earlier this month, Shanks met with offensive coordinator Seth Doege and running backs coach Lyle Moevao. He is the fourth offensive player to join Arizona's 2027 recruiting class, showcasing the team's focus on strengthening their offensive lineup.
