Gold Rush Pictures Berlinale Talents Lab Awards: Celebrating Emerging Filmmakers and Bold Vision

The Gold Rush Pictures Berlinale Talents Lab Awards have announced the winners of their inaugural edition, with emerging filmmakers Marcel Beltrán, Subarna Dash, and Aliaksei Paluyan being selected by a jury from a pool of 18 submissions. Each winner will receive a grant of €5,000 ($5,820) and support for their participation in the Cannes Film Festival. The awards are a collaboration between Gold Rush Pictures (GRP) and the Berlinale Talents Lab, the Berlin International Film Festival's filmmaker development program.
The jury for the awards included British screenwriter and director Rebecca Lenkiewicz, Austrian-German auteur and producer Feo Aladag, and German director and producer Tom Tykwer. The awards will be presented at the Berlinale Talents Rendezvous, bringing together over 100 program alumni for a special event. GRP has also become a co-partner of Berlinale Talents, marking the first time an independent production company has supported the Berlinale Talents Lab as a co-partner.
Vladimir Zemtsov, the founder of Gold Rush Pictures, expressed pride in the collaboration with Berlinale Talents and the selection of the first three awardees. Marcel Beltrán, Subarna Dash, and Aliaksei Paluyan were praised for their exceptional talent and unique projects that show great potential. The jury highlighted the distinctive artistic voices and urgency present in the selected projects, transforming personal stories into impactful cinematic experiences.
Marcel Beltrán's "Vicissitudes of Light" is described as a gripping archival documentary that explores the power of images and authorship. Aliaksei Paluyan's "Incubator" offers a deeply human portrait of a woman navigating political and economic challenges. Subarna Dash's "In Heat, on Loop" is praised for its bold and exhilarating animated storytelling that promises a surprising and deeply personal cinematic experience.
