St. Louis Man Faces Felony Theft Charge for Stealing Over $10,000 Worth of Meat and Candy from Sam's Club

A man from St. Louis City is facing a felony theft charge for allegedly stealing meat and candy worth over $10,000 from a Sam’s Club in Crestwood. Damonte’ J. Walton has been charged with organized retail theft of over $10,000 and is currently held at the St. Louis County Jail on a $200,000 cash-only bond. The thefts occurred on multiple occasions at the Sam’s Club, involving high-value meat items. Walton used a unique method of propelling his shopping cart like a scooter with his foot as he left the store and headed to his getaway vehicle, according to court documents. He used plastic totes to conceal the stolen items, including lamb, beef tenderloin, bulk candy, and totes. Investigators used facial recognition technology to identify Walton as a suspect in the thefts at both the Crestwood and Maplewood Sam’s Club locations. Additionally, Walton is facing charges related to a robbery at a City Gear store in North County, where he displayed a handgun when confronted by employees. He is scheduled to appear in court for the City Gear robbery on July 8.
