Motel: A Fresh Approach to French Film Distribution for Young Audiences

Motel, a new player in the French distribution sector, is making its mark by focusing on international films aimed at younger audiences. The company, founded by Simon Robert and Guillaume De Castro, is set to release four films in 2026, including Anders Thomas Jensen’s The Last Viking, Tomas Corredor’s November, Christian Swegal’s Sovereign, and Luc Picard’s Redemptions.
With a background in indie French distribution, the founders plan to release around 10 titles per year, emphasizing filmmaker-driven content from the US and the UK. Motel aims to bring unique perspectives to the French audience, especially targeting Gen Alpha and Gen Z viewers.
Despite the challenges in the industry, Motel sees an opportunity to engage younger audiences and revitalize the film market. By collaborating with cinemas, media partners, and international distributors, the company aims to offer a diverse range of films that entertain and captivate audiences.
Motel’s strategy includes releasing films in both English and French to appeal to a wider arthouse audience. The company plans to organize premieres, special screenings, and Q&A sessions with directors to enhance the viewing experience for audiences.
In addition to international films, Motel is also planning to release French productions, focusing on debut features, documentaries, and heritage films. Looking ahead, the company is exploring opportunities to co-produce French and European features, further expanding its reach in the industry.
