Remembering Sherman Lewis: A Michigan State Football and Detroit Lions Legend
Michigan State football and Detroit Lions legend Sherman Lewis passed away at the age of 83. Lewis, a former All-American running back for the Spartans, had a successful career as a player and coach. He was a standout athlete at MSU, earning All-American honors and becoming a captain of both the football and track teams. Lewis went on to play professionally in the CFL and AFL before returning to MSU as an assistant coach. He later had a successful coaching career in the NFL, including stints with the San Francisco 49ers, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, and Detroit Lions. Lewis was a trailblazer in the NFL, becoming the first Black offensive coordinator to win a Super Bowl. His impact on the game and the players he coached was profound, and he will be remembered as a true Spartan legend.
