Tragic Discovery: Missing ASU Student's Body Found at Grand Canyon National Park

The remains of a 26-year-old Arizona State University student who had been missing were discovered at Grand Canyon National Park. Sandarsh Krishna's body was found near the Verkamp’s Visitor Center on the South Rim by search and rescue teams on May 9. Krishna was last seen on the Rim Trail between Bright Angel Lodge and Mohave Point on April 27 or 28. A backpack believed to be his was turned in by a park visitor on April 28, the same day he was reported missing. Over 30 search and rescue personnel, including aerial flights and drones, were involved in the search efforts.

Krishna's brother had mentioned to a local outlet that Krishna had informed friends that he would be returning home from his trip on April 28. The family had hoped for his safe return but sought closure. The National Park Service did not provide a preliminary cause of death in their news release on May 12. The incident is currently being investigated by the National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office.
