Sea Scouts Troop in Los Angeles Receives New Sailboat Donation from Donald Sutherland's Family

A Sea Scouts troop in the Los Angeles area had their sailboat stolen in March, but they are now back on the water thanks to a generous donation from the family of late Hollywood actor Donald Sutherland. The stolen 1979 Islander sailboat named "Island Hopper" disappeared from a dock in Marina del Rey and was replaced with a boat in worse condition. The boat thief even switched the vessel number to a different ship at the dock, leading authorities to suspect foul play.
Despite the loss of their original sailboat, the Sea Scouts troop received a new and larger sailboat from the Sutherland family. The troop leader expressed gratitude for the replacement boat, stating that it is much better than the original. With the new boat, the troop plans to sail to Catalina Island multiple times this summer and participate in competitions in San Francisco Bay.
The Sea Scouts troop is thrilled to be back on track with their new sailboat, thanks to the generosity of the Sutherland family. The troop is looking forward to their upcoming sailing adventures and competitions. The investigation into the stolen sailboat is ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact LASD's Marina del Rey station.
