Iconic Album Cover Design Firm Hipgnosis Joins Forces with Primary Wave for Global Expansion

The design firm Hipgnosis, known for creating iconic album cover images for bands like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and more, has had its interests acquired by Primary Wave. The deal includes the interests of co-founder Aubrey “Po” Powell, but not the artwork from Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin covers. However, objects related to these covers, such as original model biplanes and sculptures, are part of the acquisition. Primary Wave plans to collaborate with Powell to showcase the Hipgnosis catalog globally.

Hipgnosis, founded in 1967 by Powell and Storm Thorgerson, gained fame for its groundbreaking album covers, including those for Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" and Led Zeppelin's "House of the Holy." The firm's work was nominated for Grammy awards in the "Best Album Package" category multiple times. Powell, who also worked on Pink Floyd's "Their Mortal Remains" exhibit, expressed excitement about the partnership with Primary Wave and the opportunity to further expand Hipgnosis on a global scale. The legacy of Hipgnosis continues to be celebrated in the music and art world.
