Tragic Head-On Collision on Highway 126: A Call for Road Safety Awareness

A tragic head-on collision occurred on Highway 126 near Redmond, resulting in one fatality and two individuals sustaining serious injuries. Oregon State Police responded to the incident at 1:11 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, at milepost 107 in Deschutes County. The crash involved a green Chevrolet Silverado driven by Lee Glenn Bernard, 63, from Lebanon, and a blue Subaru Outback driven by Scott Macleod Nicol, 77, from Redmond. Bernard's vehicle crossed into the westbound lane, leading to the fatal collision. Sadly, Bernard was pronounced dead at the scene, while the Chevrolet's passenger, Sandra M. Kronour, 66, from Lebanon, and Nicol were both hospitalized with serious injuries. The highway was closed for approximately three hours as authorities conducted their investigation, with support from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
