Governor Newsom's Intervention in Homeless Encampments: A Closer Look at the Marshawn Lynch Connection

California Governor Gavin Newsom has expressed his desire to address homeless encampments, especially when it involves his celebrity acquaintances. Recent text messages reveal that Newsom's office intervened to assist football player Marshawn Lynch, who has a personal connection to the governor. The Dover Street encampment in Oakland received over 311 requests for clearance, with Lynch's request receiving special attention from the Governor's office.

The chief of staff of then-Mayor Sheng Thao received a call from Newsom's office regarding the RVs parked in front of Lynch's family home. The Governor's office sought support from Oakland city officials to resolve the issue promptly. Despite the efforts, the encampment situation did not progress significantly, and eventually, the encampment moved to nearby state-controlled lots.

Newsom's office had previously assisted Lynch in 2012 when the governor called the NFL Commissioner on Lynch's behalf. While Newsom's stance on addressing encampments aligns with conservative politicians, reports indicate that encampments near Newsom's residence were not addressed.
