Rush Returns: Anika Nilles Steps in as Drummer for Legendary Band's Comeback Tour

Prog rock legends Rush are gearing up for their first tour since the passing of drummer Neil Peart, with Anika Nilles stepping in to fill his shoes. Following Peart's death in 2020, the band was approached by several drummers vying for the vacant position, but Geddy Lee found some of these interactions to be inappropriate.

After retiring in 2015 due to Peart's declining health, many believed Rush's touring days were over. However, the band has regrouped with Nilles joining as the new drummer. Recommended by a tech from Jeff Beck's tour, Nilles impressed Lee and Lifeson with her diverse style and musicality.

Despite the loss of Peart, Rush is making a comeback with Nilles on board. Lee and Lifeson were initially unsure where to look for a new drummer but were drawn to Nilles for her talent and passion for music. Her family background in music and dedication to drumming make her a perfect fit for the band.

Nilles, who was born during Rush's active years, brings a fresh perspective and energy to the band. Her debut performance with Rush took place at the Juno Awards, and the band is gearing up for a full-fledged return at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on June 7, marking their first show since Peart's final performance with the band 11 years ago.

Rush's comeback with Anika Nilles has been highly anticipated, and fans can catch up on the band's journey in the latest issue of Guitar World. Don't miss out on the legendary band's return to the stage with a new drummer and renewed energy.
