Buffalo Sabres Head Coach Lindy Ruff Signs Two-Year Contract Extension After Playoff Success
Lindy Ruff, the head coach of the Buffalo Sabres, has signed a two-year contract extension after leading the team to the playoffs for the first time in 15 years. Ruff, a finalist for the Jack Adams Award, will now be with the Sabres until the 2027-2028 season. The team finished the season with 109 points, winning the Atlantic Division title before falling to the Montreal Canadiens in the second round of the playoffs. Ruff, a native of Warburg, Alta., previously coached the Sabres from 1997 to 2012 and returned to the team in 2024 after coaching stints with the Dallas Stars and New Jersey Devils. With 950 career wins, Ruff is the winningest coach in Sabres history and ranks fourth all-time in NHL coaching wins. As a player, Ruff spent 12 seasons in the NHL with the Sabres and New York Rangers, recording 105 goals and 191 assists in 691 games.
