Discover the Cosmic World of WoWoW at Meow Wolf's Los Angeles Location

Meow Wolf's upcoming Los Angeles location will feature a 20-foot-tall, 1,000-pound creature named WoWoW, created by the multimedia collective Everything Is Terrible. WoWoW is described as a cosmic entity and will be the centerpiece of "the N.E.S.T.," a section of Meow Wolf's new immersive exhibition space in an old Cinemark movie theater in West L.A. The L.A. location will be Meow Wolf's fifth outpost, following Denver, Las Vegas, Houston, and the Dallas suburbs. The space will showcase installations by 45 local collaborating artists, including Gabriela Ruiz and David Altmejd, each creating unique sculptures, dioramas, and new media.

Everything Is Terrible, known for its psychedelic characters, conceived the N.E.S.T. as a tribute to maximalist roadside attractions and a fictional community called the Noothies. The installation explores the paradox of being a Hollywood idea that is un-Hollywood, paying homage to below-the-line film workers and the nature of reality. Everything Is Terrible, founded nearly 20 years ago, creates art pieces using thrifted VHS tapes and has collaborated with Meow Wolf on various projects over the years.

The collaboration between Everything Is Terrible and Meow Wolf began in 2009, driven by a shared passion for interactive art experiences. Everything Is Terrible contributed to Meow Wolf's installations in Denver and Las Vegas, creating the popular Pizza Pals Play Zone in Denver. When Meow Wolf announced its Los Angeles project, Everything Is Terrible was one of the first groups approached to contribute to the space, leveraging Meow Wolf's production facilities to bring their vision to life.

The N.E.S.T. at Meow Wolf L.A. will incorporate elements of roadside attractions, folk art, and outsider art, creating a space that tells the story of the universe in a 553-square-foot room. The installation will feature 45 costumes created by Everything Is Terrible, adding to the immersive experience and world-building within the space. Visitors will encounter a mix of unrelenting joy and benevolent chaos, experiencing a blend of folk art museum and space rave in a living, interactive environment.

The Meow Wolf L.A. location is set to open later this year, offering visitors a unique and immersive experience created by the collaboration between Everything Is Terrible and Meow Wolf. The N.E.S.T. promises to be a space where visitors can explore, interpret, and enjoy the diverse elements brought together by the two creative groups. Whether visitors are looking for a quick selfie opportunity or a deeper dive into the immersive world, the N.E.S.T. aims to provide a memorable and engaging experience for all.
