Yutaro Seki's 'My Son' Wins Imagica Group Film Project Prize: A Look at the Award-Winning Project and Director's Vision

Yutaro Seki's film "My Son" has been awarded the second edition of the Imagica Group Film Project prize in Japan. The project will receive financial support of up to $440,000 from Imagica Group to aid in its development and production. The jury for this year's edition included filmmaker Kei Ishikawa, Shozo Ichiyama, and Yuka Sakano.

"My Son" will be the latest work from director Yutaro Seki, known for his film "Sai: Disaster." The film is produced by Sangkeun Han for P.I.C.S. and is scheduled for completion in 2027. Seki shared that the story of "My Son" is inspired by a real incident he read about, involving a woman who received a sperm donation from a man on social media but struggled to bond with her child.

Seki, a graduate of the Graduate School of Film and New Media at Tokyo University of the Arts, has a background in filmmaking and has worked on various projects. The Imagica Group Film Project aims to support emerging talent with original projects, not based on existing intellectual property. The first edition of the prize was awarded to Tomoka Terada's film "Maria."

The second edition of the Imagica Group Film Project received 44 submissions from producers affiliated with Imagica Group, showcasing a diverse range of genres and artistic styles. The CEO of Imagica Group, Shinjaro Nagase, highlighted the difficulty in selecting a winner due to the high quality of submissions. Director Kei expressed his support for the project, emphasizing the importance of funding for original stories in the film industry.

The Imagica Group Film Project continues to provide a platform for emerging filmmakers to showcase their original projects and receive financial support for their creative endeavors. The initiative aims to nurture talent and promote innovative storytelling in the film industry, offering opportunities for filmmakers to bring their unique visions to the screen.
