A celebration parade is set to take place in Birmingham to honor Aston Villa's victory in the Europa League final. The team's impressive 3-0 win over Freiburg marked their first major European trophy since 1982, sparking jubilant scenes among fans in Istanbul. The parade is scheduled to kick off at 16:30 BST on Thursday, starting from Branston Street in the Jewellery Quarter and passing through Sand Pits, Broad Street, and Centenary Square. Aston Villa has assured fans that screens will be set up along the route for everyone to enjoy the festivities.
The parade will feature three open-top buses, with the lead bus in blue carrying media, followed by a claret bus transporting the players, and a third blue bus carrying staff. A trophy lift will be a highlight of the parade, providing fans with opportunities to interact with the team along the way. Despite initial plans to recreate the 1982 European Cup celebrations at Victoria Square and set up a stage in Centenary Square, logistical challenges and safety concerns led to the decision to focus the parade on the designated route.
Aston Villa expressed gratitude for the support and cooperation of the local community and authorities in organizing the parade. While some fans who traveled to Istanbul may miss out on the celebrations, the club will broadcast the event live on VillaTV, YouTube, and social media channels. The club is covering all costs associated with the parade, which is expected to last between 60 and 90 minutes. Supporters are advised not to drive to the event, as temporary parking suspensions and road closures will be in place in the city center from 10:00 to 22:00 BST.
