Scottish singer-songwriter Jacob Alon emerged as a standout artist at the 2026 Ivor Novello awards, celebrating excellence in British and Irish songwriting and screen composition. Alon, known for their unique voice and innovative alt-folk style showcased in their debut album "In Limerence," took home two prestigious awards. They won the rising star award and the best song musically and lyrically award for their poignant track "Don't Fall Asleep," inspired by a personal tragedy. Alon's music has been praised for its emotional depth and honesty.

The success of Alon's debut album was further highlighted by their nomination for the 2025 Mercury prize. While Alon didn't win the Mercury prize, they were recognized at the Ivor Novellos alongside other talented artists. Sam Fender, known for his socially conscious anthems, was named songwriter of the year, while Catalan musician RosalĂ­a won international songwriter of the year for her genre-blending album "Lux." Irish singer-songwriter CMAT took home the best album award for "Euro-Country," exploring personal and societal themes.

Kae Tempest's powerful song "I Stand on the Line," co-written with Fraser T Smith, won best contemporary song, shedding light on Tempest's experiences as a trans man. The Ivor Novellos also honored Lola Young for the most performed work with her hit "Messy." Additionally, Tom Hodge received the award for best original film score for "Testimony," and David Holmes and Brian Irvine won best television soundtrack for "Trespasses."

The Ivor Novellos recognized outstanding songwriters and musicians, including George Michael and Thom Yorke, who received the prestigious Fellowship of the Ivors Academy. Other notable awardees included Lily Allen, Calvin Harris, Linda Perry, and Kano, who were honored for their contributions to songwriting.
