Retail sales in Canada saw a boost in March, with a 0.9% increase driven by higher trade at gas stations and a surge in fuel prices. According to Statistics Canada, sales reached 72.67 billion Canadian dollars, equivalent to about US$52.73 billion. This growth surpassed the initial estimate of 0.6% and followed a 0.7% rise in February. However, in volume terms, retail sales dropped by 0.7% in March.

Compared to the previous year, retail sales in March were up by 3.4%. The agency also reported that early data for April showed a 0.6% increase in sales, based on responses from 52.1% of the retailers surveyed. This figure is subject to revision as more data becomes available.

Overall, the retail sector in Canada experienced positive growth in March, driven by increased activity at gas stations and higher fuel prices.
