Attempted Murder Arrest in Old Town Portland: Man Charged After Assaulting Woman
A 64-year-old man was arrested in Old Town, Portland, on charges of attempted murder after allegedly assaulting a woman, resulting in critical life-threatening injuries. The incident was reported to the police at 6:07 p.m. on Friday in the 700 block of Northwest Naito Parkway. Emergency medical services responded to the scene and provided treatment to the injured woman. Two officers and a sergeant arrived at the scene at 6:16 p.m. The victim was taken to the hospital with severe injuries caused by a blunt instrument. The suspect, Roberto M. Velasquez, was located in a nearby apartment, leading to a standoff with law enforcement. Velasquez surrendered to the authorities at 11:29 p.m. and was subsequently booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of attempted murder, assault, and unlawful use of a weapon. The victim's condition remained critical, and the investigation was ongoing. Police urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in the case.
