Love Across Cultures: My Nigerian Fiancé - A Romantic Comedy Film

A new romantic comedy film titled "My Nigerian Fiancé" has been announced at the Cannes Film Market, with A13 Films founder Chidozie Christian Ahaiwe and U.K.-based Hong Kong creative Hiu Man Chan serving as executive producers. The story revolves around a Nigerian man living in London who hires an Asian dancer to pretend to be his fiancé during a family event in Lagos. As the fake relationship evolves into real emotions, the characters must navigate family expectations, personal aspirations, and cultural identities. The film will showcase Nigerian music and fashion elements.
Ahaiwe expressed excitement about blending Nigerian and British cultures in a global romantic comedy, highlighting themes of love, identity, family dynamics, migration, and cultural intersections. Chan, who is also working on a U.K. remake of a Hong Kong romance, sees potential for a romantic trilogy with "My Nigerian Fiancé" being the second installment. The collaboration aims to explore love in cinema and create engaging narratives for future generations.
The project originated from discussions at the Hong Kong Pavilion during the Cannes Film Market and Hong Kong cinema night. In addition to "My Nigerian Fiancé," A13 Films is developing an investigative documentary thriller called "G-Boyz" with producer Matthew Torne, focusing on Nigeria's internet fraud industry. The casting for "My Nigerian Fiancé" is expected to take place later this year, marking the progression of the film's development.
