World Cup Trophy Tour Excites Soccer Fans in Halifax and Beyond

Soccer enthusiasts in Halifax had a unique opportunity to witness the iconic World Cup trophy up close during its visit to the city. The original trophy, a symbol of excellence in soccer, was on display at the BMO Soccer Centre as part of a Canadian tour organized by Coca-Cola Canada and FIFA. Fans eagerly lined up for a chance to see the prestigious gold-plated prize, which is awarded to the best soccer team in the world every four years.
FIFA World Cup champion Alessandro Nesta, along with other dignitaries, unveiled the trophy at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21. Nesta, who won the World Cup with Italy in 2006, shared his emotional experience of winning the tournament and the overwhelming feeling that comes with such a significant achievement.
One of the fans, Zak Ouazzani, and his family made the trip from Moncton to Halifax to see the World Cup trophy. This was not the first time Ouazzani had seen the iconic trophy, and he was excited to have another opportunity to witness it in person. Hailing from Morocco, Ouazzani expressed his country's deep love for soccer, which they refer to as football, and his family's enthusiasm for the sport.
Ouazzani revealed his plans to attend the 2026 World Cup games in Toronto with his wife and daughters. Although they won't be able to watch a match in the stadium, they have secured tickets for the Fan Zone to be part of the excitement surrounding the tournament. The 2026 World Cup will be hosted across Canada, Mexico, and the United States, offering fans a unique opportunity to experience the global event.
The FIFA World Cup trophy tour of Canada kicked off in Vancouver and made its way through Calgary, Winnipeg, and Montreal before reaching Halifax. The tour will continue with stops in Ottawa before concluding in Toronto. The upcoming 2026 World Cup tournament, set to begin on June 11, will feature games in 16 different North American cities, culminating on July 19 with the crowning of the world's best soccer team.
