Katherine Legge Makes History: Attempting The Double at Indy 500 and Coke 600

Katherine Legge is set to make history by becoming the first woman to attempt The Double, racing in both the Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. Tony Stewart is the only driver to have completed the 1,100-mile challenge in a single day, with Kyle Larson failing in his attempts in 2024 and 2025. Now, Legge, a 45-year-old veteran driver from England, will take on the challenge driving for HMD Motorsports in the Indy 500 and Live Fast Motorsports in the Coke 600.

The logistical challenges of The Double include efficient transportation from Indianapolis to Charlotte, with Legge needing to leave Indianapolis around 4 to 5 p.m. ET to make it to the Coke 600 before the 6 p.m. ET start. Weather can also be a factor, as seen in Larson's failed attempt in 2024. With everything needing to run on time, including the Indy 500, which typically lasts about three hours, the pressure is on for Legge to complete both races successfully.

After qualifying for the Indy 500, Legge will start from the ninth row in 26th place. Despite concerns about rain delaying the start of the 2026 Indy 500, the race began on time. As Legge takes on the challenge of racing in both iconic events on the same day, fans will be following her progress closely to see if she can join Tony Stewart in completing The Double.
