The Mandalorian and Grogu Encounter the Amani: Exploring the Creatures of 'Star Wars

In the latest episode of "The Mandalorian and Grogu," the duo faces off against the formidable crime lords known as the Twins, who employ a variety of allies to track down and eliminate Din Djarin. Among these allies are the Amani, a species of creatures that have been a part of the "Star Wars" universe for over 40 years, first appearing in "Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi" in Jabba the Hutt's palace.
The Amani character, Amanaman, was portrayed by puppeteer Ailsa Berk in "Return of the Jedi" and even had an action figure released in 1985 as part of Kenner's Power of the Force toy line. Amanaman has made appearances in other "Star Wars" projects, including the comics by Charles Soule and an unfinished arc in the animated "Clone Wars" series.
Although the Amani have not been prominently featured on screen outside of "Return of the Jedi," they were intended to play a role in an unfinished storyline for the "Clone Wars" TV show called the "Crystal Crisis" arc. This storyline, set on Utapau, depicted the Amani as dangerous creatures living in tribes that could roll into balls to move around.
Fans of the Black Spire outpost at Disneyland may recognize the Amani character Bina, who is featured as the Creature Stall owner and hails from Utapau. This showcases that not all Amani in the "Star Wars" universe are bounty hunters or trackers like those pursuing Din in "The Mandalorian and Grogu."
"The Mandalorian and Grogu" is currently showing in theaters, offering fans a thrilling continuation of the beloved "Star Wars" saga.
