Fresh off its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, "Colony," a thrilling action-horror film by Yeon Sang-ho, made a significant impact on the South Korean box office. The movie raked in an impressive $9.4 million from over 1.2 million admissions during its opening weekend, dominating the market with a 71.85% share. Distributed by Showbox, the film has now accumulated a total of $10.9 million from 1.5 million admissions since its wide release on May 21.

The success of "Colony" pushed the pop biopic "Michael" into second place, with earnings of $1.9 million in its second weekend, bringing its total to $7.9 million. Meanwhile, "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie" slipped to third place, adding $372,363 to its total gross of $9.8 million. "The Devil Wears Prada 2" followed in fourth place, with a cumulative total of $10.3 million.

Opening in fifth place was the Japanese animated film "Gintama: Yoshiwara in Flames," which garnered $191,216 in its debut weekend. The movie, directed by Naoya Ando, retells a popular manga arc with new subplots and has earned $322,235 since its release on May 20. Independent horror-thriller "Salmokji: Whispering Water" held onto sixth place, adding $176,284 to its impressive total of $21.8 million.

In seventh place was the Hollywood sci-fi epic "Project Hail Mary," which brought in an additional $115,367, pushing its South Korean gross to $21.5 million. The Canadian meta-comedy "Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie" debuted in eighth place with $98,358. Two Japanese animated features rounded out the top ten: "Anpanman: Baikinman and Lulun in the Picture Book" in ninth place with $69,015, and "The Dangers in My Heart: The Movie" in tenth place with a weekend gross of $94,847.

Overall, the weekend box office saw a collective gross of $13.1 million, a significant increase from the previous week's earnings of $6.8 million. "Colony" has proven to be a standout success, captivating audiences and dominating the South Korean box office with its thrilling storyline and impressive visuals.
