King Conan: Arnold Schwarzenegger Confirms Sequel to Conan the Barbarian in 2027
Arnold Schwarzenegger has confirmed that the long-awaited sequel to Conan the Barbarian, titled King Conan, is officially moving forward and is set to begin filming in 2027. Schwarzenegger expressed his excitement about the project, which will see him reprising his role as Conan more than four decades after the original films were released.
The sequel will explore a later-life chapter for Conan, who is now a ruler facing new challenges as he grows older and more vulnerable. Schwarzenegger explained that the timing of the film works in its favor as the story required Conan to age and face new threats to his kingdom.
Christopher McQuarrie, known for directing the recent Mission: Impossible films, has been confirmed to write and direct King Conan. Schwarzenegger emphasized the importance of having someone who understands the original character created by Robert E. Howard and the fantasy artwork of Frank Frazetta, which played a significant role in defining Conan's cultural impact.
Schwarzenegger also expressed his desire to have John Milius, the director of the original Conan the Barbarian film, involved as a producer in the new project. The character of Conan has a rich history, originating in Howard's pulp stories in the 1930s and expanding into various forms of media over the years.
The actor compared the tone of the new film to Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven, highlighting that it will be a story of an aging warrior drawn back into conflict. Schwarzenegger promised that King Conan would feature extraordinary battles, reminiscent of the epic action sequences that have become synonymous with the character.
In addition to King Conan, Schwarzenegger has hinted at possible returns to other classic action franchises, such as Predator and Commando. Fans of the iconic actor can look forward to seeing him reprise some of his most beloved roles in the coming years.
