Tragic Two-Vehicle Crash Claims Life of 16-Year-Old Driver in Shelby County, Alabama
A tragic two-vehicle crash occurred in Shelby County, Alabama, resulting in the death of a 16-year-old driver from Alabaster and injuring a 14-year-old passenger. The incident took place on Alabama 119 near the 26 mile-marker, close to Hoover, around 2:00 p.m. The 16-year-old was driving a Honda Civic when it was struck by an SUV, causing the Civic to veer off the road, hitting a fence and a greenhouse. Sadly, the teen driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The 14-year-old passenger was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The driver of the SUV and one passenger also sustained injuries and were taken to UAB Hospital for medical care. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's Highway Patrol Division is actively investigating the crash, and further details have not been disclosed at this time.
