Renowned Filmmakers Pawel Pawlikowski and Ruben Östlund Headline Slano Film Days in Croatia

The upcoming Slano Film Days in Croatia will feature renowned filmmakers Pawel Pawlikowski and Ruben Östlund. Pawlikowski, known for his Oscar-winning film Ida, will showcase his latest work, Fatherland, starring Sandra Hüller, which recently won the best director award at the Cannes Film Festival. The film, described as a masterful exploration of family and history, will have its Croatian premiere at the Villa Riva Open-Air Cinema in Slano. Pawlikowski will also engage in a Film Talks session to discuss his new film, moderated by Östlund.

In addition to Fatherland, another film by Pawlikowski, Cold War, will be screened at Slano Film Days, with actress Joanna Kulig in attendance for a film talk. Östlund, on the other hand, will present a selection of his short films at the event, including Autobiographical Scene Number 6882 and Incident by a Bank. He will also discuss his creative process and upcoming project, The Entertainment System Is Down, featuring Keanu Reeves, Kirsten Dunst, and Daniel Brühl.

Östlund, a two-time Swedish Palme d’Or winner, shared that his new satire is set on a long-haul flight where the entertainment system malfunctions, forcing passengers to confront the existential horror of boredom. The film is currently in post-production, and Östlund anticipates its completion by the end of the year. Slano Film Days is scheduled to take place from June 17 to 21, offering a platform for filmmakers to showcase their latest works and engage in insightful discussions.
