Keanu Reeves Pleads for Leniency in Carl Rinsch's Legal Battle with Netflix

Keanu Reeves has written a letter to Judge Jed Rakoff requesting leniency for director Carl Rinsch, who is facing legal troubles for allegedly defrauding Netflix of $11 million. Reeves described Rinsch as a talented artist and asked the judge to consider showing mercy in the sentencing.
Rinsch, known for directing "47 Ronin," was convicted of wire fraud, money laundering, and illegal transactions related to misusing Netflix's funds meant for the sci-fi series "White Horse." Reeves, who worked with Rinsch on "47 Ronin" and was involved in "White Horse," shared his perspective on Rinsch's behavior in the letter.
The defense is arguing for a sentence below the recommended 8-10 years in prison, citing Rinsch's status as a first-time offender and the impact on his career. The judge is expected to order Rinsch to pay restitution to Netflix and may also consider the excessive attorneys' fees demanded by the streaming service.
Rinsch's defense team submitted letters of support from Reeves, as well as his family and friends, to highlight his character and seek a more lenient outcome in the legal proceedings. The sentencing is scheduled for June 29, with prosecutors set to make their recommendation by June 16.
