Prime Video Unveils New Canadian Lineup: From Hockey Dreams to RV Empires

Prime Video has unveiled its new Canadian lineup, featuring a docuseries called "Hometown Giants" that follows Michael Bublé and Drew Scott as they navigate the world of junior hockey with the Vancouver Giants. The show explores the challenges of running a hockey team and the dreams of young players aiming for the NHL. Bublé and Scott aim to bring the Memorial Cup back to Vancouver in this six-part series.
In addition to "Hometown Giants," Prime Video announced several other unscripted projects, including "Surrender," a survival series hosted by Scott McGillivray, and "Heels in the Hay," a reality show where influencers trade city life for the countryside. The streaming service also highlighted its new NBA deal, which includes airing regular season games and playoff matchups.
While Prime Video did not provide updates on its NHL programming, it did reveal a premiere date for "Young Farts Trailer Parts," a docuseries about siblings building an RV-parts empire. The only returning series is the Québécois show "LOL: Qui Rira Le Dernier?," where comedians compete to make each other laugh without cracking a smile.
With over 25 Canadian Prime Originals commissioned so far, Prime Video is focused on finding content that resonates with audiences. The company's executives did not disclose the amount spent on Canadian programming but emphasized their commitment to investing in local production.
Following a recent CRTC ruling requiring streaming services to contribute 15% of their Canadian revenues to Canadian content, Prime Video reiterated its dedication to supporting Canadian production. The Motion Picture Association has raised concerns about the increased costs for streamers in Canada and called for a reevaluation by the federal government.
Prime Video's latest Canadian offerings showcase a diverse range of unscripted content, highlighting the platform's commitment to showcasing local talent and stories.
