San Diego Represents at Power To The People Festival: A Celebration of Music, Activism, and Unity

San Diego will have a strong presence at the upcoming Power To The People festival on October 3 at Maryland’s Merriweather Post Pavilion. The festival, curated by Tom Morello, will feature headliners like Bruce Springsteen, Joan Baez, Dave Matthews, Cypress Hill, and Foo Fighters with San Diego native Ilan Rubin on drums. Other artists on the lineup include Jack Black, Brittany Howard, Killer Mike, and more. The festival aims to promote love, peace, justice, and music.

Both Matt Cameron and Ilan Rubin, both Rock & Roll Hall of Fame honorees, will be part of the festival. Rubin, the youngest inductee in the hall’s history, was inducted as a member of Nine Inch Nails in 2020. Cameron, who was inducted as a member of Soundgarden last year, was previously inducted with Pearl Jam in 2017. Morello, in addition to curating the festival, will also perform at the event.

The San Diego hip-hop group The Neighborhood Kids, a favorite of Morello’s, will also be part of the festival. Their new album, “Voice of the Revolution,” was released in April. The festival lineup was announced recently, with a pre-sale starting on May 29 and general sale on May 30. Ticket prices range from $125 to $375, with a portion of the proceeds going to VoteRiders and HeadCount.

The Power To The People festival, scheduled just before the mid-term Congressional elections, is a celebration of freedom, justice, equality, and rock and roll. Morello emphasized the power of music, art, community, and action in bringing people together. The festival aims to inspire activism, creativity, and hope through its lineup of diverse artists.

The festival announcement follows the unveiling of The Great American State Fair lineup, a 16-day event on the National Mall presented by Freedom 250. While the lineup includes artists like Martina McBride, Vanilla Ice, and Flo Rida, some acts have already announced they will not perform at the fair. The Power To The People festival promises to be a day of unity, activism, and powerful music performances.
