Analyzing Amanda Conner's DUI Arrest and Child Endangerment Charges: Insights from Family Law Specialist Rachael Bennett
This week on Legally Us, Rachael Bennett, a certified family law specialist and senior attorney at Sullivan Law & Associates, discusses the recent arrest and DUI charge of Amanda Conner, the wife of Teen Mom alum Ryan Edwards. According to reports from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Jail in Tennessee, Conner, 35, was taken into custody on Sunday, May 24, and charged with child abuse/neglect for allegedly driving under the influence with a baby in the car. Bennett explains that having a child in the vehicle can lead to severe charges, including criminal child endangerment or child abuse, and may trigger an investigation by Child Protective Services.
In addition to the DUI charge, Conner also allegedly drove on the wrong side of the road, which can result in additional charges such as reckless driving or reckless endangerment. Bennett emphasizes that driving on the wrong side of the road is a significant aggravating factor that indicates impairment. Conner’s bond was set at $16,000, and she was instructed not to contact the alleged victim upon her release. The combination of DUI, driving on the wrong side of the road, and child endangerment makes the situation particularly serious.
Following her arrest, Conner took to social media on Wednesday, May 27, to publicly apologize for her actions and reveal that she had relapsed after three years of sobriety. She expressed remorse for letting down her supporters and family, acknowledging her imperfections and the consequences of her relapse. Conner vowed not to let the relapse define her future and accepted that she would face challenges in the coming months. Meanwhile, Edwards, her husband, made a brief statement on Facebook asking for prayers and indicating that he would not be answering questions about the incident.
The day after her arrest, Conner reportedly called authorities on Edwards, alleging a history of physical abuse and requesting to retrieve her belongings. While police responded to the situation, no arrests were made. Subsequently, the couple was seen together outside a gas station. Conner’s hearing is scheduled for June 3, where she will address the charges brought against her.
