Conic Acquires UK and Ireland Rights for Charlie McDowell's The Summer Book

Conic has acquired the rights to release the US filmmaker Charlie McDowell's film, The Summer Book, in the UK and Ireland. Directed by McDowell, the drama features Glenn Close and Anders Danielsen Lie and is based on Tove Jansson's novel from 1972. The story follows a young girl, played by newcomer Emily Matthews, as she spends the summer with her father and grandmother on a remote island in the Gulf of Finland after her mother's passing. Throughout the season, the trio navigates grief and connection, forming a deep bond.

The UK release of The Summer Book is set for August 7. The film was produced by Stille Production and Free Range Films in the UK, High Frequency Entertainment in the US, Helsinki Filmi and Case Study Films in Finland, the latter being co-founded by McDowell, Lily Collins, and Alex Orlovsky. Associate producers include MUV Capital, Finnish Impact Film Fund, and Eye Eye Pictures. The film premiered at the BFI London Film Festival in 2024.

Graham Fulton, co-director of Conic, described The Summer Book as a beautiful and emotionally resonant film that captures a strong sense of place and emotion.
