Eric Church's Creative Journey: The Making of 'Hell of a View
Eric Church embarked on a unique creative journey in January 2020 when he and his band set up a makeshift studio at the Artisinal restaurant in the Smoky Mountains. Their mission was to write and record a new song every day, resulting in the creation of three albums: Heart, & and Soul. One of the standout tracks from this project was "Hell of a View," which later topped the Billboard Country Airplay chart in May 2021.
The inspiration for "Hell of a View" struck Church and his collaborators during a morning walk. Casey Beathard came up with the concept of a couple living life on the edge, which they fleshed out with the help of Monty Criswell. Church joined the creative process after returning from his run, and the song was written and recorded on the same day in the restaurant's wine cellar with producer Jay Joyce working overnight to finalize the track.
After its release to country radio on October 20, 2020, "Hell of a View" steadily climbed the Country Airplay chart, eventually reaching the number one spot in its 29th week. This achievement marked Church's 10th career number one hit and also peaked at number two on the Hot Country Songs chart. Church's success continued as he collaborated with Morgan Wallen on "Man Made a Bar," which also reached the top of the charts in April 2024.
In conclusion, Eric Church's innovative approach to songwriting at the Artisinal restaurant led to the creation of the chart-topping hit "Hell of a View," showcasing his talent and dedication to his craft.
