NTA Reforms and Security Measures in Response to NEET-UG 2026 Controversy
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has made significant structural and security reforms in response to the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak controversy. The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) and the United Doctors Front (UDF) have filed pleas seeking changes in the examination body's operations due to alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG 2026 exam. The NTA's High-Powered Steering Committee (HPSC) recommended various pre-exam, during-exam, and post-exam safeguards, including CCTV checks, mock drills, weather-based contingency planning, and post-exam forensic analysis of CCTV footage to detect irregular conduct.
The HPSC will review the mode of future NEET examinations, whether Computer-Based Test (CBT) or Pen-and-Paper Test (PPT), after NEET-UG 2026. The NTA has implemented recommendations from the High-Level Committee of Experts (HLCE) and created new senior positions within the organization. Domain experts from institutions like IITs, UGC, CBSE, KVS, and IGNOU have been engaged to enhance examination management and security mechanisms.
State-Level Coordination Committees (SLCCs) and District-Level Coordination Committees (DLCCs) have been established nationwide to ensure secure examination conduct. By the time NEET-UG 2026 took place on May 3, 2026, 18 SLCCs and 621 DLCCs were operational, comprising officials from various agencies to enhance surveillance and coordination during exams. The NTA is committed to maintaining the integrity and security of future examinations through these reforms and measures.
