Spotlight on LGBTQ+ Stars and Creatives: Highlights from the Critics Choice Association's Celebration of LGBTQ+ Cinema & Television

The Critics Choice Association recently held its third annual Celebration of LGBTQ+ Cinema & Television in Los Angeles to honor LGBTQ+ stars and creatives. The event recognized notable figures like Dan Levy, Hannah Einbinder, Noah Schnapp, Jane Lynch, and Jacob Tierney, the creator of Heated Rivalry. Levy emphasized the importance of queer representation in Hollywood and the need for more investment in queer voices to create impactful stories without the pressure of success. He highlighted the success of shows like Schitt’s Creek and Heated Rivalry, which originated in Canada, and called for more support for LGBTQ+ content creators.

During the event, Schnapp shared his personal journey with identity and coming out, drawing parallels to his character on Stranger Things. Einbinder, known for her role in Hacks, was commended for her advocacy for a free Palestine, despite facing backlash and threats. She emphasized the significance of queer representation and the importance of queer individuals telling their own stories authentically.

Other honorees at the event included The Boulet Brothers, Bre-Z, Brandon Scott Jones, Dearbhla Walsh, Gina Yashere, Karim Diané, Kerrice Brooks, and Paula Pell. The event celebrated the contributions of LGBTQ+ individuals in the entertainment industry and highlighted the need for more diverse and inclusive storytelling.
