Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni Return to Court Over Financial Dispute: Latest Developments and Implications
Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni are back in court over a financial dispute related to the film "It Ends with Us." Judge Lewis Liman in New York has ordered both parties to address unresolved issues regarding Lively's attempt to recover attorney's fees, costs, and damages from Baldoni's production company, Wayfarer Studios. The judge directed both sides to submit briefs by May 31 and scheduled a hearing for June 1 to address legal questions before determining if Lively is entitled to recover money from Wayfarer.
The latest order from the federal judge has raised concerns about whether Lively's attorneys may have rushed the settlement to shield themselves from potential malpractice claims. Prominent defense attorney Mark Geragos suggested that Lively's legal team may have made errors that the judge pointed out, leading to a quick settlement. Geragos believes that the judge could award attorney's fees but may not grant treble or punitive damages, opting for a nominal percentage likely to be covered by an insurance carrier.
In a lawsuit filed in December 2024, Lively accused Baldoni and Wayfarer Studios of damaging her reputation through a "multi-tiered plan" after she raised concerns about alleged misconduct during the production of "It Ends With Us." Despite the dismissal of 10 out of 13 claims, including sexual harassment and defamation, Lively had initially planned to take the case to trial. The judge ruled that Lively was an independent contractor, not an employee, during filming, which prevented her from pursuing sexual harassment claims under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
The ongoing legal battle between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni continues as they head back to court to address unresolved financial issues related to the film "It Ends with Us." The judge's order has raised questions about the actions of Lively's legal team and the potential implications of the settlement. The outcome of the upcoming hearing on June 1 will determine whether Lively is entitled to recover money from Wayfarer Studios.
