Sir Paul McCartney Reflects on John Lennon's Influence and The Beatles Legacy

During a recent appearance on the YouTube series Chicken Shop Date, Sir Paul McCartney shared that John Lennon was considered the favorite member and unofficial leader of The Beatles. The 83-year-old musician joined host Amelia Dimoldenberg for a chat over vegan chicken nuggets and chips, discussing topics like dentists, tattoos, and favorite dance moves. When asked about his favorite Beatle, Sir Paul mentioned that during the Beatles era, they all looked up to John as the leader, even though there wasn't an official leader in the group. He also revealed that they might have all considered John as their favorite Beatle.

The Beatles, consisting of Sir Paul, Lennon, George Harrison, and Sir Ringo Starr, were formed in 1960. After the band's breakup in 1970, Lennon released several studio albums with his wife Yoko Ono and the Plastic Ono Band before his tragic death in 1980. Sir Paul recently released his first album in five years, The Boys Of Dungeon Lane, which reflects on his early years in Liverpool with his bandmates Harrison and Lennon. The album includes a track featuring Sir Ringo titled "Home To Us."

During the interview, Sir Paul also discussed his love for making music and shared anecdotes about his Glastonbury performance and a memorable moment with former Beatles drummer Pete Best in Hamburg. He mentioned that roses and lilies were among his favorite flowers, with lilies reminding him of his late wife Linda. Sir Paul recounted a touching story of giving Linda a bracelet with "L-I-L-Y" engraved on it, inspired by Aristotle Onassis's gesture to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

The Beatles remain one of the best-selling musical acts of all time, with numerous UK number one albums and singles. Following the band's split, Sir Paul embarked on a successful solo career and formed the band Wings with Linda and Denny Laine. Their collaboration produced hit songs like "Jet" and "Live And Let Die," the theme song for the James Bond film of the same name. Sir Paul's musical journey continues to inspire fans worldwide, showcasing his enduring passion for creating music.
