An investigation is underway following an incident where a gun was fired during an attempt by officers to disperse a large crowd in a parking lot near the North Freeway in Houston. The Houston Police Department responded to a call at the location around 11 p.m., finding approximately 500 people in the parking lot and another 500 inside an establishment. A firearm was discharged by someone in the crowd, causing a panic and scattering people in different directions. Fortunately, there were no secondary injuries reported in the chaos.
HPD enlisted the help of the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office, the Harris County Sheriff's Office, and the Precinct 4 Constable's Office to manage the situation and shut down the gathering. During the commotion, one officer was assaulted but did not suffer any injuries. The police are still investigating whether the gunfire was intentional and if anyone was harmed by it.
