Campus Shooting Incident at SUNY Morrisville: Student Charged with Attempted Murder

A shooting incident occurred on the SUNY Morrisville campus, resulting in a 20-year-old man sustaining a gunshot wound to the neck. Law enforcement agencies, including the New York State Police, University Police at SUNY Morrisville, and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the incident at South Hall on the campus. The victim, who was not a student, underwent emergency surgery at Upstate Medical Hospital. The campus was placed on lockdown following the incident.

After an extensive investigation spanning several months, a Madison County grand jury issued a sealed indictment related to the case. The indictment was later unsealed on May 28 in Madison County Court, charging Kido W. Simon, a 19-year-old student at SUNY Morrisville at the time of the shooting, with six counts, including attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal use of a firearm. Simon is currently in custody at Madison County Jail with bail set at $1,000,000 cash, $1,500,000 bond, and $2,000,000 partially unsecured bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 3 at the Madison County Courthouse.

The indictment marks the culmination of a collaborative effort by multiple law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation. Due to an outstanding co-defendant and to ensure Simon’s right to a fair trial, authorities are refraining from disclosing further details about the case.
